I Did it My Way

Finally I'm updating the blog since our move to Seattle! We're preparing for a hospital stay next week. Lily will have her yearly brain MRI and a 24 hour eeg to verify that she truly is seizure-free. She's already had her eyes and kidneys checked for tumors and all was good! Also, all of her blood work was good--liver function etc. is where we want it to be. Lily is also doing new things~~I've taught her to help while eating. At first I would just touch the food to her hand before I put it in her mouth...just to get that "hand before mouth" connection going in her brain. Now, she has learned to reach for the food and assist in guiding it to her mouth! Lily has also learned to pick up her drink on her own...a huge accomplishment! Lily still isn't babbling or saying any words; however, we are teaching her to point at things. It's a slow process; however, we're still moving forward. Lily is not walking yet, but she has found her own way to roll/flip/spin to get herself around. Lily likes to do things in her own way and not follow any patterns. We threw out the textbooks long ago! She keeps her therapists on their toes. Lily forces us to think outside the box, to appreciate the magic of learning, and to accept that in a field of lilies, no one knows that a flower bloomed late, but only that it bloomed.

Heather and Lilliana ~ Tacoma Zoo

What did we do today? Oh, Lily and I had our picture taken while she stood on a mushroom under a parachute tent. Where are the animals in this zoo?
